In 2013, The Gypsy Vault was opened by FreddyRay and Ricco Diamante in the basement of the historic Graphic Arts Building, which was located at at 224 W. Wayne Street. The building was initially a trade school for business professionals and at some point housed a speakeasy in its basement. A vault was later installed in the basement for purposes that are still unclear. The vault inspired the name for the shop as both it, and the artists, had moved from place to place throughout their lifetimes. When a redevelopment project caused the Graphic Arts Building to be demolished, The Gypsy Vault relocated to the historic PBI Building on The Landing where FreddyRay and Bryce Moodie continue to tattoo.
FreddyRay began tattooing in 2007, at Studio13, after an apprenticeship with Donny Manco while working as an undercover police detective for the Fort Wayne Police Department. Freddy continued to tattoo with Donny until 2013 when he opened The Gypsy Vault with Ricco Diamante. In the summer of 2017 he retired from law enforcement and began tattooing full-time. Freddy specializes in clean, precision tattoos and varies his style according to his clients needs.
Bryce began tattooing at The Gypsy Vault in the spring of 2017 after spending several years tattooing with Ryan Hadley. Bryce specializes in realistic black and gray tattoos, but has been branching out into some amazing full-color pieces. He is especially fond of Star Wars and Harry Potter and would be incredibly stoked to tattoo any images pertaining to either!
